MOSI Artist of the Month Carla Palermo displays “Misty Morning,” for which she was honored as Artist of the Month at a recent meeting of the Missouri-Southern Iowa Art Guild (MOSI). Carla received her inspiration for this oil painting from a friend’s photograph, and rendered the flowers in purple, rather than their original green.
Carla is a native of Kirksville, and is self-taught. Although painting has been a passion of hers since high school, she has recently rekindled an active interest. She currently sells her art, and would like to grow a career from her work in oils, acrylic, and pastels. “Misty Morning” is now featured in the window of the Kirksville Arts Association, 117 S. Franklin St., Kirksville. Three more pieces of Carla’s are on display at the first MOSI Annual Spring Exhibition at the Alliant Bank in Kirksville, through May 14: “Three Amigos” (steer), “Blue Lagoon,” and a large moose.
The first Kirksville Art Walk on Friday, June 6, will provide an opportunity to see more of her work. Carla and other local artists will be stationed at various downtown businesses to share their visual or performance art. Visitors will begin their walk at the Kirksville Arts Association at 5 p.m., where they will receive a list of participating artists and their locations. The event will run through 7 p.m., with many locations providing free refreshments.
