1st Annual Spring Exhibit – May 2014

MOSI Art Guild Annual Spring Exhibition

The MOSI Art Guild held the reception for the First Annual Spring Exhibition at the Alliant Bank on April 24, 2014. The community demonstrated outstanding support through attendance at the reception and donations. Alliant Bank, Century 21, Whitney Agency, Inc., HyVee, SouthHouse CPA LLC, Pages of Looks, and Anthony C. Van Soest, DMD, all provided support for the reception and awards.

Twenty-five of the thirty members of MOSI sumitted one or more works and the following individuals were recognized for their work: Tom Taylor for “Doing Battle”–Honorable Mention, Diane D. Baer for “Seascape”–Honorable Mention, Aaron Fine for “Pinting Class: Mannequin”–Honorable Mention, and Meg Sorhus for “Desert Rose”–Honorable Mention. Maureen McHale received the Best of Show–Two-Dimensional cash award for her photograph entitled “Watkins Glen.” Amber Corbett received the Best of Show–Three-Dimensional cash award for her fiber sculpture entitled “Recede.” Colleen Wagner received the Best of Show–Overall cash award for her mixed media abstract titled “Picking Up Blocks at Sunset.”

Many MOSI members worked to make the First Annual Spring Exhibition a reality. Ann Salviazul was the show coordinator and Amber Corbett and Gigi Wahba helped hang the show. Carla Palermo and Meg Sorhus worked with Alliant Bank to provide refreshments for those who attended the reception.

The judge of the show was Mark McWhorter who is a full-time instructor of art at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. He also directs the Indian Hills Art Gallery and oversees the Indian Hills Art Collection. He holds a B.A. and M.A. from Kentucky’s Morehead State University.
